Selamat Datang Monument is located in the center of a roundabout known as Bundaran Hotel Indonesia or Bundaran HI (Indonesian for “Hotel Indonesia Roundabout”). It is so named because of its proximity to Hotel Indonesia. At its completion, Hotel Indonesia and its roundabout is the gateway for visitors of Jakarta. The roundabout features a pond with fountains.

Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Istana Merdeka/Independent Palace was built in six years (1873-1879) during Governor General Louden and Governor General Johan Willem van Landsbarge reigns. Used to be called Istana Gambir, the palace was where the signature of sovereignty handover from Ducth to RIS (Republik Indonesia Serikat) took place on December 27, 1949. By the end of the procession, Dutch’s flag was replaced by Indonesia’s Merah Putih in the front hall while people were shouting “Merdeka, merdeka!” thus that was how the palace got its today name.
